Citation & Press Guide

The figures, charts and tables in our articles may be used in articles, documents and internal reviews as long as you credit the source. This page gathers how to cite, what you may use, downloads of charts and data, embed code for the charts, and the contact for interviews and contributions.

The Knowledge section of ScienceX is written from materials published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, OCCTO and EPRX, and from documents of the projects we actually handle. We have set it out in a form that is easy to cite for media, researchers and anyone preparing internal materials.

1. What you may use, and what we ask

You may use the following without contacting us for permission, as long as you credit the source.

  • Figures, tables and charts in our articles (including the PNG and CSV files for download below)
  • Summaries of our articles, and partial quotations within the scope of fair quotation (on the web, please add a link to the original article)

Please refrain from the following.

  • Reproducing an article in full (search engines treat the same text as duplicated, which works against both the original and the reposted page; please use a summary and a link to the original article)
  • Altering the numbers or axes of a chart, or redistributing without the source
  • Presenting our own observations (such as the median asking price) as if they were official statistics. Each article states whether a figure is an “organization of published data” or “our observation”

2. How to cite (examples)

Please give the article title, the URL and the date you accessed it. On the web, please add a link.

Source: Science X Inc., “Balancing Market Results — 9 Power Areas × 5 Products”, https://www.scix.co.jp/en/column-area-data (accessed YYYY-MM-DD)
Source: Science X Inc., “What Does It Cost to Buy a Battery Storage Plant in Japan?”, https://www.scix.co.jp/en/column-project-price (ScienceX observation; accessed YYYY-MM-DD)

If you reproduce a chart or table as it is, please place the same source line beneath it. The form “Source: Science X Inc., “Article title”, URL (accessed YYYY-MM-DD)” is fine.

3. What kind of number it is (before you cite)

  • Organization of published data (balancing-market results, price caps, capacity-market contract prices and the like) is our tabulation of values published by EPRX, OCCTO and the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. The primary sources are listed at the end of each article.
  • Our observation (the median and range of asking prices for storage plants and the like) is a value obtained by bundling the projects we have seen into one value per project; it is not an official statistic. Where the count is small, please read it as a band.
  • Estimates (such as the amount that disappears when the price cap is lowered) are values with a range, built on stated assumptions. The articles give the range and the calculation specification. Please do not cite them as confirmed values.
  • We aim to update the data articles every quarter. When you cite, please use the update date at the end of the article as the date you accessed it.

4. Charts and data for download

Balancing Market Results — 9 Power Areas × 5 Products ── article. The tables as CSV. (The file names are in Japanese, as in the Japanese page.)

  • Shortage-rate heatmap by product and area (April–June 2026, preliminary) (CSV; source on line 1)
  • Capacity market contract prices by area (CSV; source on line 1)
  • Area characteristics by combination of three markets (CSV; source on line 1)

Balancing Market Price Cap Falls to ¥10 — What Disappears ── article. Two charts of the estimate (PNG, 2x resolution).

What Does It Cost to Buy a Battery Storage Plant in Japan? ── article. Six charts (PNG, 2x resolution; ScienceX observation).

Fig. 1 | Asking-price band and disclosed acquisition prices

Fig. 1 | Asking-price band and disclosed acquisition pricesThe band is the range and the vertical bar is the median (one value per project; high-voltage, 2 MW class; excl. tax; ScienceX observation). The gold dots are acquisition prices from timely disclosures, and all three sit inside the band. Open PNG

Fig. 2 | Price staircase (median asking price; high-voltage, 2 MW class; excl. tax; ScienceX observation)

Fig. 2 | Price staircase (median asking price; high-voltage, 2 MW class; excl. tax; ScienceX observation)Stack the national-average construction cost from a government study group (¥68,000/kWh × 8 MWh = ¥540 million; excludes grid-connection contribution and subsidies) on ¥120 million for the rights and you get ¥660 million, almost the same as the ¥670 million median for turnkey handover. A project already connected adds ¥80 million on top of the turnkey price. Open PNG

Number tables are also found in the market data page (in Japanese; the number, scale and expected connection timing of projects on sale by service area, updated every morning) and in the construction cost article. If you need an excerpt of a table or another cut (by area, by product and so on), please use the contact below.

5. Embed code for the charts (for web articles and internal portals)

Paste the code below as it is, and the chart appears with a link to the original article and the source line. The charts are served from our server, so any replacement or correction is reflected automatically.
